In memory of the late Cross Manufacturing Company Director Ralph Flower, The Ralph Flower Engineering Award was introduced by The Flower Trust to promote engineering achievement by financially supporting students undertaking an accredited engineering degree course who show the passion and potential required to become world class engineers.

Zach Muslin, a 2nd year student at Bath University, is the first successful awardee, chosen from around ten applicants who all showed great engineering promise. Interviewed by Cross and The Flower Trust trustee Andrew Flower (Grandson of Ralph Flower), Zach demonstrated excellent engineering knowledge and a passion for engineering that Ralph Flower would have recognised.

Zach was recently presented with a certificate for the award, signed by Cross Manufacturing Company (1938) Ltd, The Flower Charitable Trust and the University of Bath. During the ceremony, Cross Director Pete Crudgington said: “We wish Zach Muslin all the best for his 2nd year at University of Bath and look forward to seeing him in his 3rd year for his industry placement. We will be keeping up with his progress throughout the year and will be on-hand with mentoring.

“Mentoring by experienced and highly skilled engineers will provide the support and guidance Zach will need to establish himself in engineering. The mentoring programme will cover an array of hands on, practical and theoretical tasks that will grow Zach’s experience and knowledge.

“This is the first year that the Ralph Flower Award programme has been granted and we look forward to many more years to come, helping to shape the future of engineering within the UK.”
