Cross Manufacturing (1938) Limited is sad to announce the death of its Chairman, Rodney Cross, who died peacefully at home on Sunday 31st December 2023 surrounded by his family.
A born engineer, Rodney spent his entire working life at Cross Manufacturing and was Chairman of the Board since 1995. As a world-renowned expert in the design of high temperature seals, he evolved innovative sealing solutions for a huge range of projects including iconic aircraft such as Concorde, Vulcan, Harrier, Tornado, Typhoon and more recently, the new F35B Lightning. He also worked on many new power generation projects that included groundbreaking work on British nuclear power plants.
Rodney oversaw successful changes and huge expansion in the Company during his time as Chairman. In recent years, he also played an important role in mentoring his fellow Engineers and Directors, as well as sharing his invaluable knowledge and experience with the wider Company. A larger-than-life character, Rodney enjoyed the company of the people he met whilst working at Cross Manufacturing. Everyone connected to the Company will remember his flamboyant nature, as well as his passion for all things ‘Engineering’, and his legacy will live on through Cross Manufacturing for many years to come.
Richard Cross, Deputy Chairman for the last year, has been appointed Chairman of the Board with effect from 3rd January 2024.
The Board of Directors offers its sincere condolences to Rodney’s wife, Helen, and his four children Peter, Jane, Thomas and Daniel.
