Lead Engineer

Job description

As the Lead Engineer, this role will be responsible for carrying out a variety of duties including Customer point of contact for R&D & NPI projects, as well as being responsible for creating designs and planning and organising suitable R&D programs.

 

The successful candidate will also be responsible for project hand over to other designers and manufacturing engineers within the Engineering office. It will be expected to work closely with the Engineering Manager and Deputy Engineering Manager and be responsible to make Engineering decisions and check/ approve relevant Engineering documentation created by others and to prepare appropriate Engineering and system documentation required to producing credible test results and manufactured items that meet the customer and QA standards as defined.

 

As part of this role, it will also be expected to assist in training other members of the Engineering Team when needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Customer focus point for R&D and NPI programs, or key member of such programs.
  • Produce Engineering drawing to current standards
  • Use of D365 to produce manufacturing documentation
  • Work to department procedures and processes
  • Support QA with design QA systems
  • Engauge in R&D activities (both experimental & analytical)
  • Project management of R&D and NPI programs (Managing project team members, when required)
  • Carry out R&D activities and operation of our Test Rigs
  • Design of Test Rig / Test Rig components
  • Responsibility for Engineering decisions and approval of Engineering work and documentation.
  • Carry out Calibration of test instrumentation, when required.
  • Comply to H&S and Environmental standards
  • Open for training where needed or required
  • Lead project Teams

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • MEng Mechanical Engineering
  • C Eng
  • Solid Works (CAD) experience
  • A proven level of experience within industry
  • Efficient in the use of Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of data acquisition systems (National Instruments), preferred;
  • Programming knowledge preferred (MatLab);
  • Experience of FEA and CFD software preferred;
  • Good working knowledge compressible flow, mechanical vibrations and heat transfer;
